What exactly does the mod change because my forum admin stopped working, and i need to know  what it does to undo it.

I've already replaced all my sources files. Is there anything else that the modification does?

Any help is very much appreciated.

Thanks.

Open the .mod file in a text editor, it is pretty simple to follow it and see what it changes. I think it makes changes to your .php files and english.lng.

actually, i have discovered something messed up. and i don't think i can blame the smilies mod.

My server is blaming the 3rd party software, (they have their own forum software, but i don't like it). I'm blaming them.

I set up three boards on their system in total.
One for a friend
One for me
One for testing out the bug

They have all stopped functioning (whilst they were functioning for about two weeks, until after i installed it)

The thing that happens is, the admin doesn't load. And i really don't know what the problem is. Maybe someone here can help me?

Maybe post a link for us to see? :)  What is the default forum software they use anyway?

PlonkerFish:

I'm also hosted by Gamespy, and have had problems accessing the admin section. I contacted Jeff but we both couldn't think what was wrong :-\

There's also been nothing posted on the intranet, hmm.

the thing is, for about two weeks it has worked.

Then, it suddenly stopped.

Gamespy has blamed the YaBB software, and i am blaming them because they did something to the server (note the reinstall i did to check if a fresh install would work).

My forum was working fine too, then suddenly the admin section was inaccessible... I can still delete threads, ban users, etc, I just can't use that particular area of the forum. It just doesn't load.

There's nothing wrong with the YaBB software because I did an IDENTICAL installation (same files, same tables) on another server, and it worked fine. Gamespy are excellent hosts, but I wish they'd fix whatever was wrong.

That is very true. :). I've been happy with them since i started getting hosted (summer 2001) and i've never received any complaints whatsoever.

I could try to e-mail them again showing them that i am not the only one with this problem, and it could set them off to 'fix' their server.

OK, give them my email ([email protected]) and also send it from the Intranet's web mailer, that way they tend to respond quicker.

I've just noticed the following:
http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph?site=http://dynamic3.gamespy.com

QuoteLinux  Apache/1.3.23 (Unix) PHP/4.1.2 mod_gzip/1.3.19.1a  2-Mar-2002  207.199.119.26   Verio, Inc.
Linux  Apache/1.3.23 (Unix) PHP/4.1.1 mod_gzip/1.3.19.1a  4-Feb-2002  207.199.119.26   Verio, Inc.

Basically they upgraded PHP on the 2nd of March, and I'm wondering if they changed anything else while they were at it...

Can you install YaBB 1.1 ????

When i'm on the database creation step, it just decides to stop functioning (a bit like the admin).

TBH I haven't tried, my forum is a highly-patched version of 1.0.0, it functions the same as 1.1.0 but without the Report to Moderator and announcement board stuff. I was going to wait till 1.3.0 before doing a proper upgrade.

I just can't think what the problem is, I've tried emulating it on my home server by copying their server config and it doesn't happen. I've even taken out the remote connection stuff from admin.php (where it gets the XML file and version info) and it still doesn't ever load. When I was going through the problem with Jeff on random occasions it would work again, then ten seconds later would stop working once again. Hmm.

I installed the forums after that date: March 10th, 2002, 12:44:44 am. So, that shouldn't be a problem.
