Speed Options mod

This was a mod we had back on our YaBB CGI version.  It allowed users to disable the loading of avatars, signatures, smilies, etc., so that they could save some bandwidth when loading the board.  I used the search feature here in the hopes of finding it available for YaBB SE, but my search didn't yeild much.  The creator of the mod is MIA.

Old mod saved here for reference.

u can disable avatar in YSE, it's in Admin Center -> Forum Preferences

disabling signature doesn't really save your bandwidth, there's not much stuff that can be put there...
unless your users are hotlinking images from your site in their signatures

I think KillerG is looking for the ability for each user to turn off those features, not for admin to turn them off for the whole board. The speed increase/bandwidth savings isn't for the board, it's for the individual user (ie users with slow connections could turn off those features and the board would load much faster for them)

I also used to have that mod on my old CGI Yabb install. My users with dial-up really did appreciate it.

Though with themes, you can release a theme that has minimal images, information. The user can then select that.

I am planning on making this an option in my project - two in fact, namely "Show other user's signatures?" and "Show other user's avatars?".... both of which would be done on a per user basis.

By the way the problem is quite real... I personally saw complaints even about admin stars!

This is not true.  Your browser, in the interest of not being completely moronic, will only download it once.  (being the same image.)
