How to inquire data only?

Since my ISP is moving servers, and for special reasons not able to transfer my account himself, I have to move my website in the next 72 hrs to the new server, including a DNS change on the domain.

Q: is there an easy way to achieve that temporarily users can inquire only, but not post new or modify old data? I would prefer this solution on the old server, instead of putting into maintenance mode, because of the DNS change. By this the offline period could be shortened.

None that i can think of.  You'd have to remove the register button and post/reply button.

Could always save copies of those file and alter a set of them.  So that when someone goes to register or post, instead of the regular code, you could pass a message to the fatal error handler that says "This has been shut down until our DNS changes".

Thanks for the reply. So it will take me maybe less time to move the board to a 3rd space until the DNS change is over. And this solution has the further advance that there will be almost no down time.
