This is the message i get when trying to setup the database portion of the non safe installer.

I created the database and user account beforehand. For some reason my webhoster appends the username of my account followed by an underscore before my database and username so it looks like jackol_yabbse for my database name. Is the underscore causing the problem? I tried renaming the database and having the installer create it but i still get the message saying it can't use the database. What's going on?

The "_" is not the problem, same does my host.

The db user must be permitted to access the db at all. After you did create database and user: did you assign the user to the database, too?

You can't do yourself if you are hosted by an ISP. If your own server, then just reboot.

When I had this problem I did not have to restart MySQL, just giving the user the access right for the database solved the problem.

Depending on the version of phpMyAdmin you can do it through there.

Assigning the user to the database did the job. Thanks!

I installed the board on another server and apparantly didnt need to assign the user to the DB or it must have did it for me. Confusing but works now.
