Groundup, only because you translated the original perl scripts to php, that it was possible to do.
Thank you.

Quote from: groundup on October 13, 2002, 03:44:06 AMinside of the "confusing stuff" comments there are 2 lines of perl. the 2 lines that have whitespace before them. those have to be converted to PHP for this to work.

Not sure if its right but it might be.

Could some kindly soul who has this mod working drop me a line or give me some advice?

I'm missing some critical step here.

I tried to install this on a friend's YaBBSE. I'm getting a server error during the last step. And I'm also only seeing the spellcheck button if I preview a post; I don't see it when I just try to post as usual.

I modified Sources/Post.php in two spots; I modified my template;  I made the sproxy.pl file and stuck it in my cgi-bin folder; I made the .js file (which correctly links to everything) and the initspell.html file.

What am I missing?

Hi, if you're still looking for an answer, please give more info;
0- What version is your yabbse?
1- what is the site's url you're working on?
2- Are you using sproxy.pl or the converted sproxy.php?
3- what is the error you're getting?
4- If using sproxy.pl, did you put your actual url everywhere it says "www.your.url.com"? is the script in cgi-bin? and is spellchecker.js pointing correctly to this file?

has anybody tried using this?

http://www.iespell.com/

Its a plugin for IE  - and apparently not spy/adware

May not be the perfect solution, but could be good to keep in mind.

It's a board I'm installing for a friend:

http://www.cypresslawncountryclub.com/forum/index.php

I'm using the sproxy.pl file.

The error is a rather generic 500 Server Error (and I uploaded ther sproxy.pl in ascii -- I tried binary too for the hell of it, but it's currently ascii):

QuoteInternal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Apache/1.3.27 Server at www.cypresslawncountryclub.com Port 80

Yes, I filled in the URL in all of the correct spots ... unless I missed a spot that I don't see here.

Like I said, the spellcheck is also only coming up on the preview screen; not the post screen.

I know I goofed somewhere in this procedure ...

The JS:

//formname is the name of form
//subject is the name of subject control
//body is the name of message body control
//compnayid, each company will give a company id.  This is used to find the location
//of custom dictionary
//If you run from your own location, you can just pass custom as the value.
//all custom dictionary will created under this sub directory
//sproxylocation is location of done.asp or done.cgi

//this file will be generated for each customer
function DoSpell(formname, subject, body)
{
  document.SPELLDATA.formname.value=formname
  if(subject!=null)
     document.SPELLDATA.subjectname.value=subject

  if(body!=null)
     document.SPELLDATA.messagebodyname.value=body

  document.SPELLDATA.companyID.value="custom\\www.cypresslawncountryclub.com"
  document.SPELLDATA.language.value=1033
  document.SPELLDATA.formaction.value="http://www.spellchecker.com/spell/startspelling.asp"

//   document.SPELLDATA.opener.value="../cgi-bin/sproxy.exe"
  document.SPELLDATA.opener.value="http://www.cypresslawncountryclub.com/cgi-bin/sproxy.pl"
//   document.SPELLDATA.opener.value="http://www.spellchecker.com/spell/sproxy.asp"

  window.open("http://www.cypresslawncountryclub.com/initspell.html","Spell",
     "toolbar=no,directories=no,resizable=yes,width=620,height=500,top=100,left=100 menubar=no")
}

And everything is pointing to the right spot as far as I know.

First, I am not a MOD maker nor am I a PHP or perl expert, so I can't be responsible for what I say here, please backup your files.
Your error maybe as simple as permissions on your sproxy.pl script, chmod it to 755. You may need to change sproxy.pl to sproxy.cgi, depends on server. Just make sure you change the .js to reflect it. Or make sure the first line in your sproxy.pl is:
#!/usr/bin/perl
or whatever the path to your perl is.
AS for the "Check Spelling" button, there are 2 more entries I put in the Post.php file:
<search for>
<input type="submit" name="preview" value="$txt[507]" onClick="WhichClicked('preview');" accesskey="p">
<add after>
<input onclick="DoSpell('postmodify', 'message')" type="button" value="Check Spelling" name="SpellChk.x">
and immediatly below that
<search for>
<input type="reset" value="$txt[278]" accesskey="r">
   </td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td colspan=2></td>
</tr>
</table>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
</form>
<add after>
<FORM name=SPELLDATA>
       <P><FONT face="Comic Sans MS, Times New Roman, Times, serif"><INPUT type=hidden
       name=formname> <INPUT type=hidden name=subjectname> <INPUT type=hidden
       name=messagebodyname> <INPUT type=hidden value=body3 name=TextBox3>
       <INPUT type=hidden value=body4 name=TextBox4> <INPUT type=hidden
       name=companyID> <INPUT type=hidden name=language> <INPUT type=hidden
       name=opener> <INPUT type=hidden name=formaction>
     </FONT></P></FORM>
good luck
also don't forget to add this line in the head section of your template.php:
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript"  src="../spellchecker.js">
</script>

Thanks a lot! I can now see the spellcheck button when I post.

I found what was causing the server error ... and it's absolutely idiotic: I copied your "sproxy.pl" file from your post and the last two lines are cut off. I didn't notice it until tonight. D'oh.

OK, it's working on the board! Another thanks to everyone who contributed to the spellcheck.

Glad to help, and sorry for the mess up, I knew it was my fault. I edited that post and corrected my sproxy.pl.

Has the code in or near these two statements changed alot?

<input type="submit" name="preview" value="$txt[507]" onClick="WhichClicked('preview');" accesskey="p">

<input type="reset" value="$txt[278]" accesskey="r">
