It's hard to come up with an efficient one to be used that is supported widely.  I could whip one together fairly easily of the user has pspell on their servers but not everyone has that.

It was just a thought, I generally use a dictionary any way, I know what the word means then , but I have seen one board with one, and you know what some people are like for add ons

Oh.... and there's always a thesaurus if you feel like it

ok.. i tried doing this before but I couldnt get pspell to load the dictionaries.  If anyone knows how to do that, i will create it in no time

The Yabb sp1 version has a spell checker mod that works just fine, it uses http://www.spellchecker.com/spell/startspelling.asp site as a external call, contains a java script and a pl file in it's mod. It adds a spell check in the post.pl. Maybe you could look at this mod for ideas on how to use it with yabbse....

Not really, Perl & PHP are similar in their most basic forms. Until you get to regexs and the like its all easy to tell apart, and therefore easy to translate. Translating YaBB SP1 to YaBB SE is difficult now... lol

All I know is that PHP is very easy to make a spell checker.  If I could get the damn dictionaries to load into a pws, i would have it done within no time at all

If you can't there at least is something that might be worthwhile to look at. That spellchecker for the cgi version does work and the spellchecker.com it's using hasn't dropped yet.. It banner ads it's window, maybe that is all they are going to do? Just throwing in a suggestion.. Hope you can get your spellchecker going.. Thanks for the work and effort you put into the development of this great soft.

It was decided that it would be very difficult to create a good working and lasting speelchecker.  If you find good stuff maybe it could work but it is very hard to do.

I have considered another method but doing it by seperating words by all of the possible letters (., -=09*&^%$#@!'"><][{}|) and then finding the first letter after that.  Opening up the proper folder corresponding to the letter, then opening a text file with the second letter, then finding the word in there.  If the word could not be found, it would give you an error.

This is really a lot of work for the coder and the server (more for the server)
