Check the FAQ board and the question about warnings in Windows.

Your error reporting is set to high in your php.ini

Ok I uploaded the "non-Safe Mode" installer (assuming that was the issue) and set my PHP.INI to "no" for safe mode.   I accessed the Index.php and got a similar message  see below...........
PHP Warning: Undefined variable: step in C:\Inetpub\Websites\xw\Yabbse\install.php on line 25

At least Im down to 1 undefined variable...  but, it will not allow me to go any further.  The YabbSE installer says;  Safe Mode Check:

It appears that safe mode has been disabled. You may continue.

.  When I "click here" to continue,  it does nothing ....

Your error reporting is set differently.  if you look at that FAQ posting, it will solve your problem I am pretty sure.

Thnkx... that resolved it when I realized that the variable was commented in the front.

Now,  I got to Install step 4 but continuously get this error

YaBB SE Installer
Cannot use database xwforum, connection to server succeeded by the way.

I also tried changing it to "Yabbse" but got the same error.   All the permissions are wide open so thats not the problem.  Any direction would be helpful...

Typically this means that the db name is right, however user or password is incorrect.

um reverse that... that would mean the username and password are correct but yabbse can't create a database...

so with WinMySQLAdmin or phpMyAdmin create a database for yabbse there.

No I don't believe that. I met exactly this error when the db name, user name and password were right but I had forgotten to give the user the access rights for the database. (In fact, by mistake, I had given the user the access rights for the wrong database).

Well that didnt resolve the issue,   I checked and rechecked all the permissions and opened them up on "everything" to make sure.   I have Yabb SP1 installed and it works fine,  I also have XMB installed using MySQL and it works fine but I want to install Yabbse as I like the Yabb Forums and MySQL and PHP... :'(.......... something is obviously amiss!
