Changing background of icons after editing

Once I edit my icons their background is no longer transparent. The result is an icon with a pink background on a blue bar (for instance "home"). I could change the color of their backgrounds according to the bar (blue in that case) but many icons appear on two or more colors (e.g. "modify"). How can I make their background transparent?

Please help!!!  :-\
