Step 2 - Errors like whoa

I've been having problems trying get YaBBSE installed on my server.  After entering the yabbse directory and starting the installation, I get hit with a barrage of errors:

Warning: open_basedir restriction in effect. File is in wrong directory in /home/.browser/palesky/valueneutral.com/yabbse/install.php on line 98

Warning: fopen("/home/palesky/valueneutral.com/yabbse/Packages/index.php", "wb") - Operation not permitted in /home/.browser/palesky/valueneutral.com/yabbse/install.php on line 98

Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in /home/.browser/palesky/valueneutral.com/yabbse/install.php on line 99

Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid File-Handle resource in /home/.browser/palesky/valueneutral.com/yabbse/install.php on line 100

Warning: open_basedir restriction in effect. File is in wrong directory in /home/.browser/palesky/valueneutral.com/yabbse/install.php on line 101

... and on and on for countless pages.

I'm completely clueless as to why this might be happening - I managed to successfully install YaBBSE on my home computer without running into a single problem.

Everything is uploaded properly with the yabbse directory chmodded to 777.  The server is running PHP version 4.1.2 and MySQL version 3.22.30.  The installer file can be found at http://www.valueneutral.com/yabbse/install.php

Any suggestions?

Sets the magic_quotes state for GPC (Get/Post/Cookie) operations. When magic_quotes are on, all ' (single-quote), " (double quote), \ (backslash) and NUL's are escaped with a backslash automatically. If magic_quotes_sybase is also on, a single-quote is escaped with a single-quote instead of a backslash.

See magic quote can be a pain in the ass..... but has it purposes too.

I have tried installing the boards into a directory different from the one where the installer file sits, and I ran into the same problems.

As far as magic quotes goes, how would that have an effect the installation?

Nothing about installing, it just causes problems here and there with the board.

I managed to get through just fine...

Use this as your install path:

/home/.browser/palesky/valueneutral.com/yabbse

If you look in that directory now, you will notice it has all been unpacked.  I got to your database settings and then of course don't know them.

But run the installer and use the proper path (it's something to do with your host why it's weird like that) and it works just fine.
