this is my installation problem...

I am trying to install YaBBSE and I get to step zero where it says:
Install to directory:

In the form box after that it shows this php code:

<?=$installdir?>

Due to conflicts with XML, my host does not support the short PHP open tag, '<?'. Instead, we are to use the long PHP tag, '<?php'.  There are a lot of hosts that have things set up like that.  The unfortunate part is that a lot of php coders are oo lazy to open with <?php.  That was the first thing I inspected when i downloaded YaBBSE.  I noteced that install.php opened with <?php so I assumed it continued to use <?php for the rest of the file.  I can only assume that a lot of the php files in YaBBSE youse the short PHP open tag.

I'm not an expect at PHP.. i know a little though.  I have tried everything i know to change <?=$installdir?> so it would work with no luck.

Unless somebody has some tips for me all I can hope is that the new release will take this into consideration.

nevermind everybody.. looks like the problem was only in the install.php and after I made this post it dawned on me that I could just replace that code with the information i would normally type in there.  so when i ran the install.php it was already filled out with all the info  worked just fine.

Hehe glad it worked although you did bring up a good point.  We use short tags all through SE...
