MySQL settings for Win 98!

I'm using my PC for learning PHP and MySQL.

So far the PHP stuff works fine.
However I'm trying to install YaBB so I can test mods (when I've written them) but I don't know the default settings for the database.

What settings should I use for step 2 of the installer?

'Localhost' - usually always works.

When u setup mySQL did u specify a Username and Password? if so input them, if not leave them blank

and as for the name and prefix, they can be anything you want really.


If you want to setup a second board you can use the same info just using a different db name.

If you didn't set the password for mysql, the username will be 'root' and the password will be '' (nothing)

OK - first of all I realised I hadn't started the MySQL server (twit me! ). Thought that might solve it. It didn't.

Although the server seems to be running it says (when I run the status command:

Current database:

That's it! There's other lines, but there's no database name. Is this good or bad

P.S. And then this

when trying to set up the admin. I hope all these errors  help you answer my question.
I've followed the installation instructions at www.mysql.com but it still doesn't seem to work, when I try to install I get the following errors...

...then a bit later...

group/apache/htdocs/forum/yabb.sql ...

...and after I click to set up the database...

(lots of these errors!)

Can you solve my problem?

Which webserver are you using with win98?

I want to set this up as well,  but presumably you need a webserver first,  can you tell me which one you are uysing with win98?

I'm using apache as my webserver (latest version).

It's very confusing to install PHP and MySQL as tutorials are orientated to different versions of the other programs!
