Move to new host?

I am getting a new host soon, and was wondering if there is any way to transfer the posts and members to the new host so people wont have to re sign up and start from scratch with posts.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

That shouldn't be a problem. Just make a dump of the MySQL database at the existing host (via, for instance, phpmyadmin) - That will generate an SQL file that will re-create the current database scheme and content, which can be executed on the new host to get back everything as they were.

Then, you can just make copies of the entire yabbse directory (or whatever directory you have installed YaBB SE in) via FTP.

Ok, I went into PHPmayadmin and did ' View dump (schema) of database'. Selected the Yabb files (should only be the ones like yabb_ in front of them correct?) I selected:

Structure and data
Add 'drop table'
Complete inserts
Extended inserts
Enclose table and field names with backquotes

and saved it to my computer. About a 500 kb .sql file.

Tell me if that is correct.

Now, when I get the new host, how exactly do I execute the file? Just upload it and run it?

And I just make the Yabb directory copy and when I get the new host just upload as is? Is any Chmoding I will have to do to them?

Thanks

Check out the YaBB SE save/restore database tutorial (http://www.penthesilea.ch/yabbutils/save-instr/) which will explain exactly the necessary steps on how to restore the database.

That seems correct. When you get your new host, use phpmyadmin and use "Execute SQL queries", and choose to upload a local SQL file (or something like that - I use the Swedish version of phpmyadmin, so I'm not sure of the exact wordings in the English version).

Correct - Just upload all files and directories. Preferably, you should set all file and directory permissions to the same as they are now. On the new host, you will probably need to change paths and database settings in Settings.php, but apart from that everything should work.
