Seriously though, I have to agree that since the option is there to include Global Moderators as members who can see the categories then it should work. It is a mistake that Global Moderators is an option otherwise.

Can you explain, Jeff, swhy you would veto it?  My thoughts are that if the guy who runs the site wants the GMs to see everything in the Admin forums, he\she should just be able to add them to the membergroups permitted to see them.  What you've done is make it almost impossible for people that *don't* want there GMs to see everything to make the software do what they want.  Especially since the change to the code is fairly minimal.

Calm down.  If it wasn't Jeff, maybe the person that *did* veto it can give a good reason.  It is an unnecessary limitation of the software.

So, it would be nice to choose on preferences if you allow global mods looking admin-only categories or not.

That's right (re: MOD).

Here was the argument....global means GLOBAL and they should have access to everything. Then this very argument came up and we discussed it again....

but then people complained that they want people in the admin areas but to NOT have admin powers....

So it is as it is now :) I tell you what though...when the MOD comes out, I'd be using it on one of my other sites ;)

In my opinion, if you want a global moderator to be a moderator in only certain places.... do just that.  If you want them to be global, so be it.  And, if it's just a status thing... well, pffft!

Global mods have other abilities as well, like being able to post announcements.  Plus, some people have upwards of 50 boards and want a mod that can crossforum smackdown if they ge a spammer.  To add the same name to those 50 boards is time consuming, and removing them if they betray your trust can take long enough to be dangerous.

Fact of the matter is, Global Moderators are JUST MODERATORS, not Admins.

If you want a forum that Admins and Gmods both have access to, but no other users do, just set the permissions that way.

This is a silly argument.  If YaBBSE was written so that Gmods didn't have access to Admin forums, both groups would be happy.  Instead, we are *limited* to just the one way of doing things.  It doesn't even bloat the code.  If anything, you would be *removing* code.
