ok... the results are (mostly) in.

no feedback from my users yet.. but general consensus from the people in the sites irc channel is that its made an improvement, not stellar... but its kinda usable again at the times it was unresponsive - with a little patience :)

havent had enough board uptime since the fix to properly see how its affected the americans... it seems good though.

host had probs yest... dont know what they were yet.

after board came back up it was showing errors. I had to use phpmyadmin to remove two tables that were locked (only clicks and logged in users) and issue sql commands to recreate them.. (stolen from the installer .sql file :D). all back up and running again properly now. (If this happens again i'll learn some php skills and make a lil script to do it for me)

ohh yeah had another problem where some threads were always new and mark as read or mark all as read wouldnt clear them. they also were always the newest threads on the board index. i found that replying to these posts fixed the problem.

all good now **crosses fingers**

Quote from: Overseer on October 15, 2002, 08:10:14 PMAs the title says... I upgraded my fairly large (i guess) board.
(2,800 users, 200,000 odd posts... now has 130 meg dbase)

...Post install the board is now sluggish. I occasionally see brilliant bursts of speed from it, but most of the time its just plain slow....

Just tried it.  It didn't seem to bad.  But jeesh, that one board has like 275 pages and over 135,000 posts.  I'd think that would slow any board down.  Maybe go to your admin, and delete posts over a year old, or something.

Hey Overseer

How did you set Yabbse up so you have that login/register screen before you can access the actual message board?

I'm getting way too many lurkers/guests and not enough registered members.

Gracias!

1) click 'admin'

2) click 'Forum Preferences and Settings'

3) check the box "Disallow guests from doing anything but login or register?"

4) uncheck the box "Enable Guest Posting?"

5) save settings

 ;D

Really depends on the size of your board. IMO I wouldnt recommend turning on '3', but only 4.
That way people can see but not touch until they sign up.
I've allowed my board to build up to a reasonable size where its not making much difference if guest viewing is disabled.

Great! ;)

Thanx for the reply, I have #4 unchecked already.

I only have 113 registered members but looking at the guests/users ratio sometimes it seems I almost have 8-10 times as many lurkers.

Gracias!
