i'm assuming he wants to do something like what is on my board and put one of them ugly banner things up.

of course this isn't a mod at all. it's just another PHP/mySQL program running and i remote linked the ads (program is called phpAdsNew for those that are curious). of course, most online banner services allow you to do the same on thier own.

anyway, that is how i did it. i know there isn't a mod for it (as of yet anyhow). but it helps you out, why not mention it. well, at least i hope it helps you.

it's a she, first off.. ;D

i run a drum & bass board http://www.floridadnb.com and we advertise all the local and state-wide events with nice banners that our users create.

Yabb 1 Gold - SP1 has "bannerads" mod which allows you to add links, flash animations, etc, just through the settings menu.

sorry about that. i completely missed the name in the post. hehe.

so is it something that the users can add of their own free will or is it only under admin control (i'm assuming the latter). if the latter is the case, you should be able to use the program i use quite easily. it allows you to upload banners to your server or even link them from elsewhere. if you want, i can get you a screen shot of it. the project page is right here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/phpadsnew

it does require another mySQL database though. for this reason i can see the advantage of having it modded, but with the ability to still post the banners on other pages. so far it has worked great for me.

Set up was a breeze.  The only thing that was a little tough was trying to figure out the admin section, ie setting up accounts, etc.  Came with good docs, but they left out the section on admin!  Once I got it figured out, set up of accounts went smoothly.

Just include a simple <===include virutal.......  statement in your YaBB SE template and you are all done.  Also insert include statement into your static and CGI/Perl genereated web pages too. The thing works extremely fast.  Really no need to integrate into YaBB SE.

I would recommend it.

There was a banner ads mod in YaBB Gold SP1.  If anyone is running this YaBB version still, please try it out, so you can see the mod working.

The mod placed two banner areas (about the same width & height as the News banner) above the news banner and at the very bottom of each page.  Admin could switch either or both of these banners on.  The ads themselves were held in a list (they could be either HTML links or scripts), one ad per line in the list, and the list had an editing function.  The mod would take an add at random from the list and place it in the selected banner areas.

This for me was one of the best mods, because I could post lots of banners from various Tradedoubler or Commission Junction sites, and people browsing my forum didn't get bored with seeing the same banners all the time, because they were changing with every page load.

Someone PLEASE (I'm begging here  :) ) write this mod for Yabb SE  :)  Thanks in advance !

my page is actually loading them from commisssion junction and HTTP Ads. it also shows a new one for eachpage load. so it can be done with the script i mentioned earlier.

i'm not saying the mod shouldn't be done, i'm just offering this one as an alternative until it is made, or as an alternative in general..

I'm not understand why anyone would want to put a banner ad mod on yabb when there is so much to choose from out there?  Why slow it down by putting something on it that's not needed?  phpadsnew and many other systems will do just fine.  Or if you're real lazy like some people I know, use adrotate.net.  I'm just not getting it.  I don't meant to insult the person who requested this mod, but I just don't think it's needed.

Help the newbie! (me)

I downloaded a good-enough free script called digi-ads.  It allows you to add in ads from a control panel and then gives you a little snippet of PHP code for you to paste in where you want the banners to go.  Problem is, when I put this PHP code into my template.php, it crashes the whole forum.  I mean, the index page loads up to where the PHP is, then just stops.  I get no buttons or anything and need to FTP down the messed up template and cut out the PHP in order for the board to run again.

What am I missing?

The PHP code works fine if I put it in its own file.  It's 3 lines of PHP code, one "include" and two more after.

Thanks!

Use phpadsnew and use the remote invocation, such as the java or iframe invocation.  That'll solve the problem

Yeah, I'm trying that now.  I'm getting some error that the docs say is because php magic quotes is not on.  I can't win.   :'(

I'm not sure why this needs to be such a hassle.  I probably could have written a PHP script to do this myself in the amount of time I've wasted  with this.

I have installed phpadsnew and it seems to work.

But it is very complex, no idea how to use it  ::)

Just paste the HTML into your template wherever you want the banner to go.  They have a bunch of other php options, but they won't work in your template anyway.
