Quote from: Jeff Lewis on May 30, 2002, 03:52:05 PMYaBB Gold? YaBB has always had a good way to mark topics. There have been a couple of bugs but it was always been better than some systems out there IMHO :)

Better than some? There aren't any that come close that I have seen...

This board is fine as is, why update it?

If anything should be added, is the vbstyle smilies, quick admin and the IP in profile with MUTE mod added to the board upon installation. Oh and the Calendar should be added in as well.

Also this board should support MODS easier then before, so it should use Pac center better and paccenter should be more reliable.

There are some other MODS out there that should be implemented into this board automatically. Why not? I mean most of us use them and if we didnt we "uncheck" the option.

Heh where have you been? ;) Calendar will be in 1.4, what are vB style smilies?

Board could use some optimization and it will receive just that ;)

I agree. A lot of mods aren't very compatible either. If a lot of stuff is added(esp by non-developers), it won't regain its current reliability.

Mods are a much better ideal. You only download it if you want to. There should be a better place to find mods though, the 'mods' forum is hard to find for many.

VBstyle smilies is where you can add as many smilies as you want, but your post page will only display 16 and the rest are in a java page. Its an awesome MOD by BIG P. The smilies you give are great but the ability to add your own, and as many as you want without hurting the load speed of the post page is again, awesome.

As for the MODS i suggested, i think they are needed rather then wanted except for the smilies MOD.

Quick admin is needed, Mute MOD is definitely needed, calendar as well, but its being added. As for the optimization queries, WHOA! I just did it and my board doesnt experience load times whatsoever. With a fast host and a cable conn, whats a load time? heheheh

As for your bloated theory, maybe so. My board has all the MODS i mentioned above in my board and its hella fast. Im not saying to add all mods, only essential MODS (ei, Mute MOD, Calendar MOD, Quick Admin MOD, Optimization MOD, SMilies MOD)

THose are essential IMO and do not hurt the load time of boards whatsoever, unless your DB is not optimized.

Yep, vbstyle smilies most likely wont be added. That was originally a hack for vBulletin. I'll make it a add-on with the new smiley block I'm working on.
The only problem I see with the current style of smiley adding is it is all done seperately. Whereas my mod allows you to add up to 5 smilies at a time, and edit all your smilies at once. Sure you could argue that is doing a good few queries, but its not like you update smilies all that often is it?  ;)

Quick admin mod I can understand, and I do believe it should be a feature of YaBB (once I finish it, or even the current version :-\ ) but Mute users? To me that'd only be an optional mod to install if you want it.

Nah i think its very useful to everyone. When you have a board you can ban people, why not be able to Mute them instead. Its pretty much the same as the Ban option, but this gives the person a chance to still read the board and not say anything.

Personally every clan board should have this feature.
