That might be pretty interesting, I will take a look into doing something like this... maybe I could use css templates to make skins?

Just for reference I CALL this mod. :P

WAIT ;D

Before you start work on this mod, the default buttons need to be "un-antialised" so that they work on all colour backgrounds. Currently they work well only on light colours, so if a skin was dark the buttons would look rubbish on them.

Yeah good thinking... maybe I could set it up so different skins use specific directories with "skins" for the look of the board. Example:

www.yoursite.com/yabbse/skins/gray/

and for instance the directory can contain the graphics for the skin and a template.php file for use in making the board look different...

Just trying to get a good working thought of how I should go about doing this, any suggestions?

Alright well before I begin I need someone to donate 1 template and buttons for testing out skins with. I already have 2(the default yabb one and the one from my board) but I would like at least 1 more with images that match it. Please send template.php, and the images to [email protected]

Sure go ahead and send it. But remember it will be included with my mod as one of the default skins so don't include anything you don't want to be released publicly.

Okay I am going to have it so that each skin directory will have a skininfo.php file in it. And inside the file it will have all the info needed about the skin.

<?php
/* Skin info */
$skinname "WinXP"// The name of the skin(for use in the drop down menu)
$skinimages "yes"// If yes then the skin has images in the directory, if no then it will use defalut images in your images directory.
$skintemplate "yes"// If yes then there is a template.php file in the directory and it should use it for the skin, if no then it will use the default template.php file in the root directory.
?>

Is there any other info that any thinks I should include?

Basically it scans the directory called Skins for and subdirectorys, then adds them to an array, so I won't they users won't have to worry about selecting all the skins they have, it will know and list them.

You should add somewhere in the skininfo.php file for the author's name. Like $skinauthor. When an admin selects that skin, below the drop down box it could say:

Copyright (C) 2002 <whoever>

I think you are all putting too much thought into this, unless youre modding your board constantly, the easiest thing to do is to take all of the "top level" items in your YabbSE directory, put them into a new directory, change your template (of course) and take $boardurl and $boarddir and point them at your new directory..

All thats left to do Is to add in a theme selection type of link, and perhaps a quick admin type function...

Although I havent added that link/dropdown in just yet (I made these changes last night) I have tested out seperate skins on one of my messageboards...

Sure this isnt a "true" mod but it does the job..  ;D
