Language problem

I've an English board and would like to keep it that way. But I do want to be able to see characters from foreign languages like for example Russian.

Does installing a language pack fix this "problem"? and if so where can I find info on installing language packs?

All language packs do are change the text around the board.  i.e., "Post reply" or "Subject" but do not effect what characters can be in posts.  That depends on what your browser supports.

My browser (IE 6.0) supports Russian characters and I can see them on Russian sites. So why can't I see them on the board???

Look at the first line in your template file. Is it like this?

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">

Those last two chars, EN, stand for English, that's why you don't see Russian characters. As to how to make it so you can see them, I haven't a clue, try www.w3.org, but try not to run the HTML validator there, it's depressing to see how badly you've formatted your pages. :)

I lost that line a couple of hours ago just to see if it would fix my problem, it doesn't....
