Calendar

I recently wanted a calendar mod for one of my boards and didn't find any. I see there is at least one under developement here, but that's not now.

I haven't turned this into an installable mod, but I can if anybody is interested in it.

At the moment here is what it does:

Displays birthdays with member ages. Birthdays in the calendar are URLs to the member profile.

Allows users in specific groups to post events to the calendar. My current board allows visitors that I don't want posting events, but it is nice that they can see them.

Calendar events are linked to messages. When a user creates an event they get a small form that asks for an event title, day of the month, and a board to post the message in (only shows boards they have access to). After entering a title they are taken to the normal post a message screen. Events in the calendar are URLs to the message they reference.

Admins, Global Mods and the user who created the event are allowed to edit it. They can change the date, description, or delete the calendar event. Deleting the event does NOT delete the message it is attached to. If you can edit an event there is a little red asterisk that appears next to the event name, have to click on that to edit it.

Deleting the post that a calendar event refers to will also delete that calendar event.

When viewing the calendar you can only see the events where you have access to the board the event was posted in. If you have admin/private section somewhere on your board and want to schedule an event only for them, just make sure the linked post goes into a board in the private category and only people with that access will see the event.

Here is an URL where you can sorta see how it works. You won't be able to post as there are a few private areas on the board and posting is restricted to people in those groups, but you can see some public events listed, the birthdays and scroll around in the calendar if you like.

Calendar Sample

There's a Calendar button up top. Yah I know, the button doesn't look quite right, but was close enough for me.

So if this is something anybody is interested in post here and let me know and I'll see about turning it into an installable mod. If not, well that's cool too, it's serving its purpose, I just thought I'd offer. ;)

never really thought about it much, but i would have to say i'd be interested in this. looks like it could come in handy.

if i may, one request (or option if you will). make it so accessibility is the same as the member list. meaning that only members of the board are the only ones able to view it. it would probably be best to have it as an option in the preferences though. same as guest posting (for those customer service forums.)

Ok, will Mod it....

There are two mod methods currently (I haven't used the tools before)? I'm not sure that I want to maintain/learn two of them so is one preferred over the other?

I have looked briefly at one I got from boardmod a long long time ago running Yabb Gold -- didn't look terribly hard but I didn't put much thought into it at the time. Do they both work on a similar search/insert/replace premise?

The other one is built into the board, is that correct?

I'm sure I can round up all the info, just looking for some opinions on it I guess and you might save me a little time. :)  It'll probably be a day or two before I have enough free time to bundle it up as a mod, but I doubt any longer than that.

I myself, insert mods manually, so it doesn't really matter to me.
