Jeff's right though - it's not hard.  It's just unwanted.

Exactly.....building it is easy. It will just give trouble using it.

QuoteIt's almost impossible to integrate the two into one BB.

Heh, does anyone else see a contradiction here? Anyways, I'll agree with Dave that usability may be an issue. I like flat better anyways, so why am I arguing? :P

maybe what he meant was "It's almost impossible to integrate the two into one BB without having any trouble when using it."  ;)

Michael, read the post again....there's no contradiction. There are 3 paragraphs explaining the sentence you quoted.

Right, 'pologies, I misread it several times. I was taking what you said as meaning that there would be code difficulties. Spaceman-spiff's explanation was a good slap upside the head for me. ;)

I was confused as to whom this message was addressed.. to me or somebody else.. [sign] if there had been a threaded mode option, I would have referred to the threads to find out exactly to whom and which message were you replying thus [/sign]

Seems you Guys have all had real bad experiences with Threads.. no pun intended.. I think the issue is almost settled..  No Threads :(

To anyone who is familiar with the community - it was clear that it was addressed to Omario.

If you're not familiar with the community, it *still* wouldn't make sense even if you understood Dave.

Had Dave intended for this to be a comment that everyone should understand, I'm sure he would have either quoted Omario, or used his name.

Heh yes it was towards Omario :)

As for threaded bad experiences...it's not that really.  I mean I do find it very annoying but I went from those types of forums to flat mode which I found much more organized and more pleasing to my eye.

I wince when I visit threaded forums these days ;)  It's just personal preference ;)

In a flat-view I think it's not more than normal that you quote when replying to a certain message that is further back in the discussion, and you don't, when it's a reply to the message just in front of it.

Anyways, believe me, I myself would not be against implementing the threaded view if there was a good solution for the problem described.  I wouldn't use it anyways, but as some people prefer it, it might be a neat feature to chose in your profile.

That's what I was saying from the beginning, but as you said, it would present the confusion problem. If it were to be implemented, the best thing would be an overall admin on/off and then profile-selectable threaded/flat.

Personal in the sense that tens of thousands of people that use forums powered by YaBB (Gold and SE) haven't complained  :) ;) ;D
