I noticed this ages ago, but now i would like to know why!

its annoying because if i post just after someone i get the error "Last post from this ip was under 5 seconds ago" and as my board is getting busier i get that more often.

so does anyone know why everyone has the same IP?

I thought about replying yesterday when I saw this but then realized I have nothing decent to say.  My only question is is the ip address of each message the same?

What IP address do you get for all users?

If the server uses some kind of server-side cache (like F2S), then the IP would come back as 127.0.0.1 (localhost). In that case, you need to change all references to the REMOTE_ADDR environment variable to HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR.

But if you get a valid public IP for all members (not localhost), then it's not that problem...

Sounds strange - It doesn't sound like the infamous server cache problem then...

But just to be on the safe side, check phpinfo() on your server and go through the environment variables in there - See if you can find your real IP address somewhere (first check to see what it is, of course), under any environment variable.

Well, phpinfo() isn't really needed for this... Do you have any other way to view all the environment variables (via CGI or whatever)?

I would guess you are getting the ip of the router that connects your server to the outside world.

I would also think that. And in order to see what environment variable is used for the real IP address on that server, it would help to view all the environment variables...

It should be fully possible to fix - I'm sure there is another environment variable (instead of REMOTE_ADDR) where the actual IP address is stored. The only question is which...
