Password-protection of a forum

I'd wish to protect certain forums with passwords. Members should be able to see that there is another forum, but should have to know the password to enter the forum.

I only want to protect a specific BOARD, not a specific CATEGORY.

I can protect categories by allowing only specific membergroups, but I can't protect a forum at all.

It is useful to protect a forum, because once you have several membergroups and hidden categories it's getting difficult to sort everyone out the way it should be, so that not everyone can read every category.

As an alternative it might also be an idea to add a MOD which allows to exclude usernames to one specific CATEGORY, so that I can disallow a special person of a membergroup to read ONE category, but not the other one.

Or it would be also good to allow a person to be a part of TWO membergroups.

Man, that's complicated, isn't it? ;D

I once saw this one on a Gold Board.
You can see a board on the index but you can't enter it.
You are not able to read the headlines and msgs in it until you enter the right password.

I think on yabb gold this was called 'password protect board mod'.

Would be greet having it on SE too.

This would be a rather easy mod, but that would take time I believe as there is probably like 5 or more files to edit!

Someone should design a way to call a "BoardLoadQuery" function or something any time someone tries to access a particular board.

This would take care of lots of requests people have had for Board-specific mods! It could be used to set or reset any flags for those mods.

Yup, it was made by Cae right? T'would be easy enough to do, I'm sure some other mod writer wannabe can download the mod from BoardMod and convert it. And if anyone has a problem.. just ask. ;)
