Joseph, when you say "welcome message," are you referring to the top bar? I'd definitely like to see that made available to calling by SSI, including the "hey, user, you have X messages," the date, and the buttons. A little something else to include might be the forum statistics (i.e. number of members, topics, and posts).

How about the ability to include text based upon whether or not the user is a logged in or not.

SSI = Server Side Include. Basically lets you include a particular piece of code or variable or whatever in your HTML. Forgive me but I do not know much about SSI yet, although I need to learn it, because my website is going to be requiring extensive use of it, since the template page doesn't allow PHP Code (!?) and I want to use the same code across all my pages rather than use a yyfunction on just the template page and an <? include () ?> on the others.

Although it sure would be easier if I could just <? include ?> the message board in a pre-existing PHP web page rather than use just the template.. maybe this is still possible. I don't know, I'm still learning.

Hi...

was wondering if someone could help me with this ;)

I've been trying to utilize this idea on my own site..
http://www.3dhomeworld.com but I'm having a few problems..

  • message formating (spaces etc
  • polls... possible?
  • server side includes...
this topic is alittle ambigious...
do I *have* to have my index file .php to call ssi.php ?

I'm using shtml for my server side includes atm and for search engines sake I'd rather not change it to php now..

I've tried using an inline frame.. can someone think of a better suggestion ?  :-\

EDIT: got it working with shtml... server side includes....

just having probs with the 'poll' mod..

errrr... thanks for your help  ::)

thanks
Ian.
