I suppose this happened to others when they were beginners, too.
The easiest is to restore the original template.html that comes with the YaBB SE installation and start over with your modifications. Always backup the template.html before you modify.
In order to experiment with the colors and learn how the css tags are effective, you can use the
YaBB Board Color Helper 
In addition, you could find help in the "Graphics and Templates" forum.
