Easy way would be to set a limit on the text box that people use to register.  Just add a maxlength="num" parameter to the text field.

Doesn't need to be added in as default, you guys can add the simple HTML, yes the above is correct.

Hey i need some help, today someone on my forums changed their name seen by other members (not login name) visible name into 70 letters long.  please let me know how to prevent this.

Add the max length thing to the text box in modify profile in Profile.php
