I can't find any info on this problem on the board, pls. forgive me if I've missed it, and point me to any appropriate posts?

The error message I get upon installation, after entering the db info, is:

Cannot use database dragons_lair, connection to server succeeded by the way.

PHP version is 4.0.6, MySQL 3.23.45, and I'm really not at all experienced with using either (but the point of trying this version of YaBB is to learn both.)  Any help anyone can supply would be greatly appreciated.

I've got the very same problem and have been searching to the mentioned post, it probably is http://www.yabb.info/community/index.php?board=131;action=display;threadid=2599 but that didn't help me.

I've tried several names, so I suppose there are several databases now, but always get this error. I've also left the database prefix name empty, didn't work.

Make SURE you have the database name right.  Some hosts add a prefix to the database (my personal site, all the databases are like hyrum_dbname).

Yes! This time it worked flawlessly... My stupid fault! I thought a NEW database name had to be filled in for my new forum, but it was just asking the original database name.
So the other topic COULD have helped me... *smacks self on forehead*  ;)

if you have a normal host that doesn't mess with things you could just use 'yabbse' as the name for your database...
if your host has limited you to 1 database, it'll be named as your username for mySQL or your site name.
or your like jeff who has to use his sitename then any name for a database 'cornnuts_yabbse'

OK, I've figured it out, I had to create a database named "yabbse" first. I was thinking the installer automatically did it.  :P
