News: SMF is the next generation in forum software, almost completely re-written from the ground up, make sure you don't fall for cheap imitations that suffer from feature bloat!

Password Protecting the forum

Problem Description:
The site I am hoping to use YaBB SE on is one for workers in our large organisation to raise and then debate issues involved in our professional life. For this reason I would not want it accessible to all but also we do not have an intranet that could do this

Is it possible, having set up YaBB SE on such a site to then have access to the whole site (view and posting) accessible only to those who we allow via a password?

Any advice would be appreciated

YaBB SE can't do this well "out of the box."  I recommend you look into either the Allowed User mod or SMF, both of which should solve your problems.

You could also use Apache's .htaccess, but this is by far not an aesthetically pleasing solution.
