Adding a Latest News, example, it would list all subjects and only subjects and http://www.yoursite.com/#14 so it would add a # link, here is an example, http://wow-news.net/ its under headlines for them.

wouldnt be very hard to mod, but i wonder how to do it efficiently without calling an extra query...

This could be done with the SSI I'm writing/written for 1.6.0.
