Watching my who's online and logs I regularly see a single guest with an AOL rotating IP register on the total number of guests many times over.

Most dynamic ISP's provide a fairly random IP e3ach time you connect but companies like aol tend to rotate their users through several proxies during the same session, therefore making any record of guests a total farce.

As YaBBSE recognises a new dynamic IP as a new guest each time (within the time allowed for click log) it will record each dynamic rotation as a new guest.

One time I thought I had 40+ guests in my forum, when I checked the log I found it was just 3 users crawling around with gradually increasing dynamic IP numbers.

Besides, if guests aren't members then why worry about them? They're like window shoppers - brilliant for making the place look busy, but providing absolutely no input to the forum.

Bin the guests data and concentrate on real users and you'll at least have accurate information to work with.

I see... I didn't know that the IP could change several times in the same session, I thought it only happened when the person reconnected to his ISP, like it happened to me

Okay...

I need to leave YaBB SP1 Gold.  And I'd be dead in the water without "Print Who Is Online" the greatest mod of all time.

Description: Put information about how many guests and members are currently online on your homepage via SSI, Iframes or JavaScript.

To me, this is a very basic request-- wouldn't lots of people want their Forums to have the current user list and recent posts show up throughout their sites?

I've been looking and looking, and this thread's the closest I've seen, but it's seems focused on putting the info into the YaBB generated pages too.

Anyone interested in adding this capability to YaBBSE?

Who's online is already in SSI.php... one of my sites does exactly that. If you have a yabbse install, open up ssi_examples.php in your browser...you'll see it there.
