Problem Description:
Just put the forum up and have some questions

1. Is there an easy way to customise the look of the forum without knowing much PHP?

2.  I need to deal with COPPA issues.  Is there a mod or another way to handle this during the registration process?

3. How do I get phpmyadmin for mySQL database management?

4. What's the best way to back up the database?

Otherwise, you'll find that most of your coloring stuff can be changed in your forum template - no php, just straight html.

2. Not sure what COPPA is, so I'll leave this one alone.

3. phpmyadmin comes preinstalled with many hosts, you should look around your cpanel. Otherwise it can be downloaded here: http://www.phpmyadmin.net

4. Easy way to back it up is through phpmyadmin or through your admin panel on the forum. It's under Maintenance Controls, title dump database.

Look at template.php... it's just HTML .

The best way is from a shell... but the admin panel does it too .

Another question.  What's the easiest way to restore the database?

via phpMyAdmin or mysql's shell commands.  The second option is the quickest and most realiable way, the first option is the easiest.
