Hello,
I'm sorry to bother everyone again. I asked a similar question earlier and thought I'd gotten the answer through other means but now I'm not so sure. So I wonder if anyone could provide some insight into my situation.
Our board was running fine until Friday, when our host's server had to have some hardware replaced, which took all weekend. Now our site works, and the message board, um, sort of works.
It seems that everyone but the admin can log in (after a few tries). Everyone sees this at the top of the screen:
QuoteWarning: open(/home/tmp/sess_730fd7ab4757627d0e748a5db7a57de5, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13) in /home/.sites/52/site259/web/yabbse/index.php on line 78
The admin can log in, but all he sees is this:
QuoteWarning: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 15 is not allowed to access /home/.sites/52/site259/web/yabbse owned by uid 1117 in /home/.sites/52/site259/web/yabbse/Sources/Subs.php on line 291
Warning: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 15 is not allowed to access /home/.sites/52/site259/web/yabbse owned by uid 1117 in /home/.sites/52/site259/web/yabbse/Sources/Subs.php on line 291
An Error Has Occurred!
2: SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 15 is not allowed to access /home/.sites/52/site259/web/yabbse owned by uid 1117
(/home/.sites/52/site259/web/yabbse/Sources/Subs.php ln 291)
When I asked about it before, I then called my hosting provider, who pulled up the message board and said that they had to change some security thing and that it would take a while. So I thought I had my answer. But at the time I didn't know that everyone else saw the board; I thought that everyone saw the safe mode errors like I did. So now I'm not so sure that I know what's up.
I tried searching the help files for safe mode, subs.php, and something else (I forget what), just so you know that I'm trying not to ask a question that's already been answered.
What is safe mode and how did I end up in it? (I have a vague concept about safe mode in general, I think, but when it comes right down to it I can't describe what I think I know about it so I don't think I really know anything about it.) Is it something that could have happened if my host's administrator changed some security setting somewhere?
Thanks for all your help, and sorry for asking (what feel like are) such dumb questions.
N & J
