1.5.0 Cookie problem in Xp

I've been trying to find information on this issue, seen lots of cookie issues but nothing exactly like this.

In XP using IE6 or NS6, I can log in, bump from page to page including the admin panel, close the browser and re-open, I'm not logged in.  The cookie exists and is formatted properly.

I recently upgraded my PHP version to 4.3.1 hoping that would solve the problem, it did not.

I tried to upgrade to 1.5.1 release candidate and subsequently could not connect to the database... although it was on PHP 4.0.6

Has anyone seen this issue, am I just not searching properly? Is it addressed in 1.5.1 and now that I'm running the latest PHP I should be ok?

Thanks for your time in this matter.

Well your first problem is that YaBB SE requires PHP 4.1.0 or greater and the cookie code requires things that aren't in 4.0.6.

1.5.1 should have no cookie problems relating to the actual software. So its best to upgrade to that.

Thank you very much for your advice. As I previously stated, I had upgraded to PHP 4.3.1

This morning I upgraded to 1.5.1 RC1 on a test board to make sure it worked.... same problem on Windows XP. Here is the board URL

I've mad sure that its not IE's cookie settings and netscape does it too.

And you can count me in on this problem, as well.  Two of my three YaBB SE installs are reporting the same problem.  All three are 1.5.1 RC 45 with the ClickLog mod installed.

Okay, what I did was to name the cookie something a bit different.  I think this might be a case of multiple cookies with the same information, especially if you belong to several YaBB SE boards running under the same domain.  Let's see if this helps.

try this: in IE6: Tools menu -> Internet Options -> Privacy tab -> click on Edit, put: yoursite.com inside the address textbox -> click Allow -> then click OK.
it could also be because of 3rd party programs that block cookies

Please rmember - your cookiename MUST be an ALPHANUMERIC value.

If it has a dot, underscore, comma, or even semicolon... it won't work.

When upgrading change the name of your cookie. If you don't there are bound to be conflicts.

Okay, now this is VERY interesting...

Take a look at this

BOTH are 1.5.1 RC45's, the difference between the two is the AFT one is an upgrade from 42 to 44 to 45, the Heresy one is a full install.  There's quite a few users that are having problems staying logged in on the AFT one, the Heresy log in issue seemed to have been resolved when I changed the cookies name.

The session length is too long. 999999 is far too much... make it a decent number like 9000 or something.

I physically changed it to that.  Previously, it was set to 60, even though people were checking off to remain logged in.

The other question is that why do I see two different quick log in style boxes for the same versions?

One is the login bar, the other is the VBStyleLogin.

Okay, lemme say this, when I check the SP1 style log in on AFT, the log in bar completely disappears.  I see the code in the template for it, though.

I'm almost tempted to dump the entire system and do a brand new install of 45.

Check your template.... I think it has to be capitalized correctly.

Ok, here's what I noticed today...

when I hit my site: http://www.apfmichigan.com/boards

, the url switches to http:://apfmichigan.com/boards

Won't login -- cookie names don't match.

If I bookmark http://www.apfmichigan.com/boards/index.php?board=;

I can log in find, recognizes cookie, etc. etc.

Hopefully my convoluted explanation makes sense... Obviously something is redirecting wrong or I have to check the config for a full url somewhere.
