JavaScript returns errors in post form

Hi,
Do you have any idea why a YabbSE installation might return JavaScript errors when running the post page for creating messages? If not, could you point me in the direction of someone who could?
I can make plain text posts perfectly well, but if I click on  8)  for example, it just does nothing. Keeps saying 'object expected' when I look at the report. I have tried re-installing ubbc.js, making sure to upload as ASCII, but I'm tearing my hair out because I can't understand what's so different between e.g this installation and mine.
If you're interested, it's at members.lycos.co.uk/jaydeeace/yabbse

Yes, I know it's on Lycos, but it's the only UK-based solution I can find   :'(

TIA,

Jonathan

Make sure the url to the javascript file is correct.

A few days ago when I installed a copy for some reason it put the directory to the javascript file instead of the url and it wouldn't work.

So go into the admin center then into forum preferences and settings and make sure the url for the ubbc.js file is correct.

I was being stupid and tired last night and forgot to post the exact error(s). They read as follows:

Line: 2
Char: 1
Error: Syntax Error
Code: 0
URL: http://members.lycos.co.uk/jaydeeace/yabbse/index.php?board=1;action=post;title=Start%2Bnew%2Bthread

The object expected error seems to come and go as it pleases...
Have made sure url to ubbc.js is right, and it all seems ok.

Also, I'm having probs with the lycos redirect on post situation that seems to be well known among other lycos users, but one thing at a time!  ;D

Many thnks guys, YabbSE rocks, but lycos...doesn't (ahem)  :'(

Hiya...

I'm having the exact same problems as jaydeeace, with clicking the tags/smilies and nothing happening, yet I can manually add the codes, and it'll show up just fine in a post.  Also... I can't 'preview' a post... it'll just post.

I checked the admin prefs and the url to ubbc.js is correct.

The error is 'object expected'  (it's definitely in the directory, I double checked that too :) I have the 1.5.1 version.

Line: 328
Char: 1
Error: object expected
Code: 0

Any idea???  :-\   Thanks so much!

Thanks...

I did that, and am still getting the same problems. I also get a...
Line: 2
Char: 1
Error: Syntax Error
Code: 0
... when just going to the post page

and when clicking on one of the smilies for instance, I get a:
Line:1
Char:1
Error: Object Expected
Code: 0

Basically anything I touch on that page is an error  ;)

Checked the url in admin prefs again, and it's still correct  :-\

Try uploading the file with a different FTP client.

I recommend SmartFTP.... http://www.smartftp.com/.

This problem is a very common one that happens when the file is either not uploaded correctly, or is not linked to properly.

Please provide a link to your forum, as well, if you continue to have problems.

Tried with the FTP you recommended (which I like better than what I was using btw, thank you! :) but I still get the same error messages.  Made sure it was ascii and double checked everything (link to, etc) that I can think of.

Here's the board url:

Thanks so much for the help!!

What version have you installed? 1.5.1 RC 44? If so which install package did you install? Somebody reported the same js error in the german board. Maybe the ubbc.js in one of the install packages is foul? Could you try if it helps if you install the ubbc.js from another install package?

Thanks... Yes, I have 1.5.1 RC 44 installed -- new install.

I tried your suggestion with the ubbc in the safe mode package, and then with the one in the 1.5.0 safe package, but still get the errors with them as well.

LOL! I'm stumped.  Everything else works fantastic :)

Ok I installed a fresh 151 RC 44 test board and found the reason for the error:

The installer is setting a wrong path name to the ubbc.js into the board settings. You can solve the problem by editing the file "Settings.php" and correcting the following line:

$ubbcjspath = "http://www.yourdomain.ccom/yourboard/ubbc.js";                           # Web path to your 'ubbc.js'

Many apologies.  This was my fault, and will be fixed in 1.5.1 build 45.

Wow, you went through a lot to check, Andrea, thanks!

I did check that, and it was set with the correct path (no 'http' -- had the web path)  :-\

Out of curiosity, I checked to see if the fader.js was working (didn't have it active originally) and apparently I get errors when using that as well.

So, I'm guessing it could be a problem with my host, and using js files??  *sigh*

Thanks so much for all your help!
