some sort of mod that converts YaBB passwords to a more standard or compatible format that would allow conversion from YaBB to another board format at a later time?

there are standards!  ::)

YaBB SE is using Standard DES with 2 Letter SALT (at least the older versions)! You can use this PW´s in each .htpasswd file without probs!

I wrote a script to load the PW´s and Usernames from YaBB SE Database and put automatically in a .htpasswd file so you can use a .htaccess file to protect your site!

so, where is the prob?

I think he meant standards among other software. So YaBB SE passwords would be encoded the same way as phpBB, Invision, etc.

i was just wondering because i was looking at converters for other forums, and everything seemed to be able to be converted to every other forum and back again, except YaBB. passwords are supposedly lost during a conversion to phpBB or whatever.

You can use PW´s from other Boards in YaBB SE without Prob when this PW´s are encrypted! This is no conversation this is transfering from table to table!

What we can´t is to convert a YaBB SE PW to a PW in decrypted form!

Does this mean that admins will no longer be able to view the passwords of their members because I cannot find any way of doing that at the moment?

Yes.  I have strong opinions about this, and have already made my stance known.  (it's come up before.)

pity that, as my members are even worse at the board than I am, and quite often email me to ask me to change something on their profiles for them.
I suppose I will still be able to do this via admin though?

You can click on a user's profile, and go to Modify to change anything.

Plus, they have the option of forgot password.
