[REQUEST] THREADED VIEW of POSTS MOD

Sorry to start a new thread but this is an "official" request for a mod. I hope someone out there has the ingenuity to do it. I'd do it if I knew how.

There is a popular script out there called WebBBS (http://awsd.com/scripts/forum/webbbs/index.cgi). I know it looks archaic to some of you guys but there are alot of BIG sites out there that use it. The "threaded" view has been around for a long time and there's alot of people who are used to it and like it.

YaBBSE blows it away in alot of ways and there are many of us who'd like to switch over but we know our constituents are gonna bitch and moan.

The only other "threaded" board that is comparable to what we are looking for is the W-Agora Board (http://www.w-agora.net/en/index.php). Still, YaBBSE is much better. But they have the right idea...basically a merger of the two.

Isn't there someone out there who could do something like this? It would be a HUGE help.

I doubt you'll get that mod!

It's been discussed many times before and dismissed because:
* YaBB was founded as a response to the complicated threaded view that most people don't know how to use.
* There's many complex issues on how to display threads, and how to switch back from threaded to linear view.

If don't know if anyone would be interested in helping. It's a big mod as a lot of pages will need recoding.

However - who knows?

It doesn't have to go back and forth. It can be set to one or the other.

It would be a very large undertaking...

So instead of a listing of subjects in each board, you'd want it threaded? And what about overall categories? How would you break that up?

Perhaps after v2 is released, we'll have an easier way to make it work - the normalised database would be a start.

Maybe v2.5.....

We're not denying it can't be done, we know it can there's just a few issues:

1. Making the database queries quick - not really possible until we move to a fully normalised DB structure in v2.
2. Coding it - not the easiest of things with the current format, it will be much easier when we have the template parser in v2.
3. Working out how to switch between the two so it doesn't appear confusing.

I think threaded forums have their place (if people can use them properly). I would be keen to persue this once we have a more reliable structure in v2 to build in on.

I can't speak for all the Devs but I will say that our current priorities are v1.5.1 and v2 in that order. After that I'm sure features and bug fixing will become number 1

Well I guess you could just put a link at the top which goes to a threded view page and constructs it in this way it would be easier
