Hi,

I would like to show guests the forum in different languages on my site.
In SP1 I used the language.mod and the &language= parameter.
How is this solved now that the language is set in user's profiles?

thnx

For the time being, there is no way to set languages for guests - They only get the default language, as selected in the admin settings. I e only registered and logged in users can select language, guests can't.

It's too bad, and I hope someone will be able to do something about this... At the very least, it's a problem as people who don't speak the default language of a forum very well may not be able to understand enough to actually manage to register...  ::)

But surely if they dont understand the language to manage to register then they wont understand the language the posts are in..

How about a translator mod.. ;)

Not necessarily, as some forums may be multilingual, with some boards in separate languages. For instance, on this forum, people who only understand Swedish (and not English) won't manage to register to read and post on the Scandinavian board.

A translator mod would be very difficult to code I think.
However, there are good translation sites in the web, which can translate a whole site like

You could store a hidden input tag that stored the language variable. Then you would just read that value on each page load and if the user is a guest load the language file specified there.
Then just have somewhere in your template where you can change that value to different languages.
