Edit the search default
« on: December 11, 2002, 02:39:17 PM »

Hi,

-I think the default setting for ,,Max Age since last post:
" in the searwindow is too less.

It's just 7 days.

I think you should increase it to 1 or 3 month. Current SQL Engine is fast enough to get the search results quickly. I just mean 7 day are just a too short time.

-maybe removing the "hours" as search parameter would also improve/simplify the enter mask.

Thanks for listening ;)

I think board admins would prefer to be conservative with their SQL, however in v2 we might be able to default it to "all dates", as it will be quicker.

And I think the hours can go as well. :)

I think you should increase the settings, too. 7 days ?!? Do you want more posts like "I can't find it !" ? I'm not. It's not funny to answer those damn questions about the search...
Sorry, but it's true - set it higher >:(... :'(

I think we should set it by default to launch an email to Daniel ;)  ;D

Yeah 7 days may be a bit small, I'd say 30 at least.

I use 100 days when searching.  The default should be an admin option, no doubt.  Larry

I think 30 is indeed nice as default. Furthermore, as was suggested by Webby (by IM), we should have a default search with only an inputbox, a submit button, and a link to 'advanced search'. Why bother all those 'searchers' with this overload of search options anyway?

30 days seem a little short to me. Better 360 days or even better unrestricted days.

30 days seems just about right to me. :)

Maybe change it to all users, not just members as well. :)

This would be a step into the right direction ;)
The search interface is the only thing in YabbSE which could be done better and more clearer.

I think the issue here is that the search probably isn't coded well and lacks caching if you set it high you find it's slow.

Don't worry it's on the TO DO list for v2. :)

I hope following 2 little modifications can already be done in 1.5:

- increasing the days

- removing the "hours"

I just always press and hold the 9 for a while in that field. Too lazy to type anything like 30 or 100, etc.

Oh the search is not that slow. I always modify to unlimited values, and its quite fast.

Same me. The search should just report by default *everything* fitting to the search term, not depending on a number of days. People will not change the number of days when they got no results, they will just post the same questions in the board ever and ever again.

Andrea is right.
A big part of all visitors are using YabbSE for the first time. So I don't think they will do as most of you do (changing the days value) !!
