i never managed to install that gallery :P
my host is running in safe mode, and the script needs a lot of add-ons
it looks like a very advanced gallery script, u can do a lot of image manipulating
but the more complicated it is, the harder it is also to integrate with YSE :P

Yeah...I couldn't use it either. You would wonder why would someone make a script you can't run on safe mode ::)
But I guess I was just refering to that NetPBM they use to resize images. I would guess it would be something you could use if Imagemagik nor GD is on your server if you are being hosted.

I found Gallery to run just fine, my YaBB SE runs out of www.website.com/~myname/cgi-bin/index.php while the gallery is www.website.com/~myname/cgi-bin/gallery/albums.php
I don't think I'm running in safe mode though.  I also have no overlay of users to the gallery from YaBB, i created new accounts for a select number of "picture posters"  with the ability to create new albums and let everyone else access the content via a guest account.

I wanted to ask about that Coppermine gallery you are using Spiff. It uses Imagemagick or GD Library. So if your host doesn't offer either of these how can you use this gallery. Like I was explaining earlier....Gallery uses NetPBM bianaries instead of ImageMagick or GD. Well...I guess what I'm getting to is....can one upload  ImageMagick or GD on to their server and still use Coppermine?

P.S. Your mod looks really good?!?!

Quote from: diva_uno on October 25, 2002, 12:33:40 AMCheck out Gallery. I think they use something called NetPBM to resize their images. You can download the binary from Gallery. The complete package is located here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/netpbm/.
From what I've seen you can upload this and you don't need anything like imagemagik or GD. I don't know much...but I know how to read...completely understanding is another thing. :P
But check it out. ;)

It looked like it had promise but then as I read on, I realized that you still need to be able to "compile C code for the web server machine."  As far as I know, this is something I cannot do as I don't have any type of shell access, only FTP.  I think I am still hosed.

Perhap I need to work this from the host angle and see about getting something worked out with them.

Thanks though..

Jack, the "precompiled binaries" should work just fine.  I'm running a separate instance of gallery (which is great) but it isn't linked to YaBB SE at all.  All I can do on the remote server is work off permission on the cgi-bin directory.  I also have very limited FTP commands (ls is all I think).  I was intimidated by gallery at first but I managed to get it up (I've had some Linux and MySQL experience but I don't know any PHP, hence I have to relation between YaBB SA and gallery).

The obvious troubling thing is using NetPBM (I think that's what it's called).  I actually just created two directories off cgi-bin: once called 'gallery' and another called 'NetPBM'.  It worked just fine.  Once you get the admin account set up, everything else is very simple.

Do you know what operating system your web server has?  I'll reply with a link to that precompiled binary if you like.

These are the variables I get from phpinfo():

MACHTYPE = i386-redhat-linux-gnu
OSTYPE = linux-gnu
HOSTTYPE = i386

If there is a precompiled binary for this.. i'll give it a go.. but I think I am going to move hosts here pretty soon anyway.  I've been looking into Rochen hosting and they seem pretty good and cheaper.

Jack,

Assuming you run windows and your webserver runs linux.

1) Download current.gallery.tar.gz from this website.

2)Read this file (look at the second section about installing with only FTP access)  This is the README file included above

3) Unzip with WinZip or similiar program.  You'll upload these to a directory called gallery off your cgi-bin directory.

4) Follow instructions for configuring Gallery

5) If needed (I needed this), grab a copy of NetPBM from here (Download other versions than RedHat here)

 - I just made a directory for NetPBM called 'netpbm' CHMOD this (and files within) 755

- The gallery installation is a bit strange with the empty file and all that stuff, but it should work ok.  If you still can't get it to work, please post and I'll try to give advise.

- BACK UP first, this shouldn't affect YaBB but I'm not guarenteeing anything.

OK... so I tried to get Gallery working and I think it is futile...  However, I was able to get 4Images Gallery installed and that seemed to go alright.  It appears to be functioning.  However, I still cannot use the thumbnailer to work.  4Images Gallery can use NetPBM but I get an error when trying to call it.  My first thought is that the binaries I uploaded are not proper for my server.  I tried to grab some other binaries to try but nothing seemed to work.  I guess I will be looking even harder at moving hosts now.  Any more ideas about this?

Thanks for your help magical_yak!
