Are we going to see some improvements to PacMan (or what ever you call it in v2)?

Also make the package server code public?

As I've pointed out elsewhere in the boards, I like how PacMan works, but it needs a bit of help.

Mods are for things above and beyond a normal board.  Adding mods also creates headaches for future upgrades.  The things I listed are normal features on some of the bigger name boards.

Quote from: Chris Cromer on November 01, 2002, 06:57:18 PMSheesh, what more do you want from SE2, you want it to cook your food and clean your room for you? ::)

I say just make it simple and easy to use and let any additional features that aren't necessities be added through mods. :P

I understand that, my question was could it be possible to build the next version that a user could be part of more then one private board?

Quote from: anagolightly on November 01, 2002, 06:53:39 PMThere are private groups, this is so simple to do. You  just create  a group and only give certain members access to it. I  have done this and that private board is not viewable by members who have not been permitted access. If this is not what you were referring to then, then i am sorry that i could not be of any more help.

Since my preference is for 'lean and mean', my sympathies are with Chris here! No-one's stopping you moving to a 'bigger name board' if that's what you want...

I'd like to start by saying thanks for this board.  It's the best I've seen yet, and free.

That said, I agree with a lot of what is wanted in here, and am excited about the future of the system.  Take this wish list as a motivation (a lot may already be in the works).  Generally, I'd like to see more layout control, simplification, and features.

Layout control:  I added Yapp, and man, their block management seems to be a big step in the right direction.  Their page and menu management is also excellent.  It's so nice to use the editer to enter a button link, name, and icon, instead of having to hack into english.lng, etc.  It also lets me condense the Yabb Admin center into a box the size of a deck of cards, by copying and pasting links to one page, and easily linking a menu button to it.  I'm really pleased with the control and power that system gives me over board layout.

Simplification:  For groups like this, with people who thrive on coding and all, the board is easy enough to use.  For the kind of group I serve, there are a lot who are overwhelmed.  Make the board simple as possible, while maintaining all the power, features, and options (Community Zero had such a simple, yet powerful system.  But then they started charging $30.00 per month to use it.).

e.g., a lot of the phrases could be shortened (we did in english.lng) for using text mode--like a simple, "delete", instead of wordy phrases like "remove this article from the board".  Or "10 newest posts" instead of "The 10 most recent posts on this board".

Also, in the Admin and Prefs area, maybe make one medium sized box with tabs, that shows links for one area at a time, instead of those monolithic three foot long columns.

Features:

* Calendar:  Please[/b], someone, add recurring events to that thing, as well as the option to delete single instances of a recurring event without deleting all of them.  I'd also like to see the option of auto e-mail and or IM notification for events, with options for how far in advance to notify, and recurring notification with options of how often, for such events as birthdays and anniversaries.

Allow option of showing preferred number of current upcoming events and dates, in the board index, instead of just one day at a time, on the day it occurs.

* I'd like to see an excellent, integrated photo gallery, like the one at community zero, that lets you pick how many small thumbnails to show on the main page.  It links to the full size picture, and then has user comments below.

* Sub categories--yes, do it please.

* Search engine: add simple mode.  I also wonder if there is something that needs re-worked on regular mode.  I too have difficulty getting results unless I enter it as a phrase search...haven't been able to do just a name search and get results.

*Integrated chat with on off switch for those who are so passionate about not having it.

* More documenation for help.

Thanks again for YaBBSE.  I really look forward to future releases.

I can't believe people actually want a calendar ::). if you want something like this, just mod your board or use a CMS!! I am going for a lot of people out there, and saying that we want a message board. Not a portal system.

I think it would be cool to see it use the standard webcal format.  Then you can do things like export your calendar to iCal or even Outlook.

would be cool to see an SSI (mini) version of the calendar, so we can included it in the site...
or is there a mod already for that?
