Undefined variable

I am trying to convert my gold to YabbSE... the YabbSE went fine on my instal, no error messages.  My old SG1 is on a different server. I copied all the files from that server onto my server and ran the converter.php.

It's not working.  As soon as I put converter.php in the  URL, I get this error:
Notice: Undefined variable: step in c:\inetpub\wwwroot\yabbse2\converter.php on line 34

I also get a slew of other errors for different lines. I tried converting anyway, and it did seem to bring in the old data, but browsing the baord gave me various error messages and I couldn't log in, so I assume the conversion didn't go right.

I've checked the permissions on the yabbse directory half a dozen times... I run W2K with IIS, so everyone is set to everything at this time.

Would there be a different reason for my error that I'm not aware of?  Does it have to come from a working board, not just copied files?

I appreciate any help I can get!
Thanks,
Cyn

Soo, looking at converter.php, all the errors are on lines where an

if (!$step)

statement occurs.  So it's not able to understand what the $step variable is.  Where is that defined, where does it come from, and how come the converter.php is not recognizing it?

Hmm...
Thanks. :)

Just an idea for checking, not sure if it helps:

There was once a problem that installer and converter worked only when the php variable "register_globals" were set to "on". Maybe on your server the variable is "off" and the devs fixed installer but not converter ...

Thanks for the reply! I have checked that, and it was off, so I turned it on. However, I got the same error. I did stick the converter.php file onto a friends server and put it in the URL... I'm not getting the same errors.  So it probably is my php.ini file. I'm going to ask him for a copy of his php.ini and see what settings he has as different.

:)

I'm very very new to php and mysql, so am learning as I go. I don't know.. maybe I'd have to restart something? Hrm....

I believe you need to restart apache after any changes to php.ini inorder for them to take effect.

I'm running IIS under W2K.

This is driving me nuts. It still cannot detect various variables.  I looked at the install.php code, and saw that when it calls the $step variable, it does so with this syntax:  isset($_GET['step'])
converter.php does not use that syntax.  So, I put in that syntax around all my steps, and what happened... well, it brings up all the steps on the first page. Which means all the if statements are coming back as true.  Which can't be (this is what also happened on my friends server).

However, there are also other variables now that are coming back with the same error, and I just can't go through them all, it'd take forever, and I don't know PHP well enough to know the correct syntax.

I do have globals set to on in my PHP.INI...

Anyone have other ideas?
Thanks.

Why would the install go flawlessly, but the converter is having such nasty problems?  Doh..

Well, it seems to have converted, I searched the forums and found this post

http://www.yabb.info/community/index.php?board=135;action=display;threadid=5048

And the solution seeeems to have worked.  I do have to get the email working, but I rather planned on that being a bother.  :)

so, the forums seem to be there.. lol
