Seems like a good idea. You could always "borrow" (with the necessary modifications to create YaBBCode, rather than HTML) the Hotmail Rich Text Editor for e-mails.

What I have in mind is integrating the htmlArea to work with yabbse! I've made some progress but then java is not my specialty. So before making this mod .. I just want to see if it is realy worth my precious time ;) and of course if yabbse's users need such tool.

Personally, I'm happy with just using the YaBBCode, but then, I've been using it for ages.
Newer users, who may not have encountered HTML/BBCode before may have difficulty with adapting to using it to format their messages. For these people, a WYSIWIG editor would certainly be a great bonus, and would enable users to post messages using an interface similar to those they may be familiar with (eg. MS Word) More than a few times, I've seen people who have expected to be able to select text, then apply a style (as one would do in a word processor), like "Glow" to it, and have ended up with a glowing "TEXT" in their message, and the rest plain. This would solve that problem nicely.

I do however invisage a number of problems. The main one being that YaBBCode isn't recognised by the browser, and so somehow, you're going to have to get some kind of conversion from HTML (in the editor) to YaBBCode, either with (client-side) script before posting, or in a Post.php script.

Yup the conversion is the hard part. When using a complex WYSIWYG editor you will be face with complicated html tags that are hard to convert.
