Is ARABIC the forbidden language !!

I've installed YaBBSE to give it a test before I start to write an ARABIC language pack for it.
But guess what! The first message I start to post in ARABIC when viewed or posted will become NUMBERS!
I think the form convert the ARABIC text to UNICODE but in numbers.
So .. does that mean there is no way of writing ARABIC! or am I missing something here!

hehe I thinkit has to do with encoding the template. I will try to find the solution as it's been posted here before, perhaps a search on charset will turn up the answer.

I have put this meta tag:
Quote<meta content="text/html; charset=windows-1256" http-equiv="Content-Type">

and remove the old one:
Quote<META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1">


and it worked!! so now am happy ;D

I will start translation to arabic right away ,

Hello,

Viewing an Arabic webpage is like looking at an English
one but in a mirror. What I mean is that everything should be right to left oriented.
So that means I must change the alignment of every text and pic. Pics are the easy one but alignment are hardcoded in the sources files. No problem here .. but
if I change the source files (alignment only) YaBBSE will become an Arabic version only.

Is there any other way!

This was discussed about 3 weeks ago.  There is a function in PHP that reverses text.  I can't seem to find the thread but maybe someone else can.

if it only reverses text .. nope.. that wonot do it!
you see I need to cahange every (alignment) if it is right It should be left , if it is left it should be right.

Someone added a tag to the tables, was someing like table align=reverse or something. It's on here somewhere, will try to find it.

Hello,
I've finished translation the .lng file with the pics!! Wow.. it took more than three days, I must be losing my English!

any how , have any body found a way to deal with the alignment of cells in table! searching here and in PHP.NET and still could not find any other solution but to alter the source files!!

If any one got any good idea please help.

With all respect .. it completes nothing.
Let me put it this way , in order to make a PERFECT translation of YaBBSE to Arabic you need to do the following:
  • Edit the template.php and change this tag <HTML> to <HTML DIR="RTL"> .

  • Look for <META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1"> and change it to <meta content="text/html; charset=windows-1256" http-equiv="Content-Type"> .

  • Look for <TD vAlign=center align=left bgColor=#ffffff><IMG alt=logo                
src="YaBBImages/selogo.gif"> in template.php and change it to <TD vAlign=center align=right bgColor=#ffffff><IMG alt=logo src="YaBBImages/selogo.gif"> .

This will make the whole page with the SELOGO look right for Arabic viewing. But your page will still be disoriented .. why .. cause there are some elements that are still in Left to Right direction ..  such as board's name ,  board's desc  , post button ...etc.. and to make it worse those elements are hardcoded.

  • So far I have to change those two files: BoardIndex.php and MessageIndex.php , what we need to do here is just looking for the string (align=) and change the tag inside it in this manner : align="left" to align="right" and align="right" to align="left"
But am afraid those will not be the only files need to be changed.

  • I also need to translate the complete helpadmin.help and the help files as well
... it is obvious now that we need a complete installation rather than just a single lng file.

I know that the YaBBSE team are working so hard to give us this great BB and they do it for free. :)
When I start to make a translation , I was not doing it for my self but for the community to show my appreciation. But with the progress of the translation, I found that translation one file will not do the job right, and I just hate a job not done well.  ;D

WOW!! When you are done, it would be nice to get those scripts on the download page.  You should search for a "batch replacer" on Download.com or Google.com  That will replace all cases of "align=left" with whatever you want (in your case "align=right")
