Ok I am trying to understand something here, I know that my server can run Access 2000 or 97 but They don't run MySql or Sql, But I LOVE This Forum Layout and I want it for my site!!!!! Can Yabbse work with my config, I tried to see if it would but I only found out that Yabb 1 gold will not but that brings me to another question whats the diff with SE and Gold??? Sorry if it stupid... ??? but if you can let me know what to do that will let me run this on my site I willl really appresiate it ;D

oh and when i tried this nothing wopuld happen;

Fresh Install Instructions:
---------------------------------

1) Connect to your server via FTP or any other means.
2) Create a directory on your server called 'yabbse' *CHMOD to 777
(Note: the name of the folder can be anything you wish)

3) Upload these 2 files: install.php in ASCII mode and yse130.ya in BINARY to that directory.
4) Open your browser and in the address bar type: e.g. 'http://www.mysite.com/yabbse/install.php'
5) Follow the on-screen steps, double check that you've provided correct information.
6) When you've completed the installation and your board is running, Delete the Install Files. (Refer to step 3)

Also I am new at this so I don't know exactly what to do But Step 3 is where I am a little/alot confused. How or What is the Right way to convert these files. all I did was rename them with .txt and I am a lost with what Binnary is (.exe???) sorry again for such 3rd grade questions here!!!!!!!

sorry if I posted this in the wrong spot I tried to figure out where to post, but couldn't..Sorry and,

Thanks again

Actually, there is a Windows version of MySQL, you can get it at the link to the bottom left (Get MySQL). I had it running on Win XP Pro with no trouble. You have installed IIS, right? Might want to make sure you have the latest security patches for it too.

The biggest different between Gold and SE is that Gold runs on a flat file system, and SE runs with a database (MySQL). That gives SE a major advantage in speed.

Make sure that you've installed both the Windows version of MySQL and the Windows version of PHP - both available from the links to the left.

Good luck, Mad Moya

Sorry, I misunderstood you - I thought the server was your machine running NT, not a host site!

So you are saying that your host doesn't have MySQL installed? Unless you can convince them to install it, you can't use YaBB SE and will have to use YaBB Gold instead. Just make sure they also have PHP 4 installed too, since YaBB SE needs both MySQL and PHP to work correctly.

Sorry for the confusion, Mad Moya

ahhh ok,  :'( i tried that allready, but my host is a bit of a shall i say anall they are cheep, but that is about that. nothing as far as customer support or anything...

But if I were to just host it myself on one of my computers what would I need to do that??

Currently I have a NEC 133mhz 128mb ram, A sony Viao AMD Athalon 1000mhz w 384mb ram, and a iMAC. I also am running Bell Nexia Business ADSL 1.5mb downstream & 640 upstream. Would you say that I could easily do it?? and if so what else would I need other than a router to share the internet from the other two computers. the only thing id i dont have a static IP which from what I understand I will wind up with once I use a router, so I could give my domain name that address to locate the NEC I know it is slow, but will that matter much, if the site is the only thing there?? I dont use it anymore for anything, so I could use it for that. What do you think

If could you possibly direct me to another site/area that may be able to answer more questions, or tell me where about to begin. on hosting my own web site. Once again thanks! ;D

A router won't work... it gives you a local/internal IP that usually starts with 127.xx.xx.xx which isn't viewable on the web. You would need a static IP from your ISP for the computer that hosted your site (eg: not through the router). OTOH, my "dynamic IP address" hasn't changed in two years, but we have four of them (use 3 of them for 3 computers).

In addition, that 640K upstream speed might be a bit of a bottleneck, especially if you plan on more than a couple of people on the site at a time, especially if you're sharing that bandwidth with several other computers at your house. :)

Your best bet might be to find a better host.  Are you paying for your current one, or is it free? If you're already paying, look at http://dzones.com instead, they are the folks I use and they're great. There are also several threads listing some pay, some free sites that have MySQL and PHP installed for your use.

ok, that would be easier I think to, I tried, I am checking out two people, right now. I am currently paying for my service not much but its a shared hosting service. so I have tried to find out what other companies have to offer and, one thing I need to know is what is required to run this Forum on a server??? I am only looking into two companies Telus Web Hosting (http://www.telushosting.com/packages.html) and Web Exceed (http://www.webexceed.com/hosting.shtml), they both seem to offer the same but Telus seems to offer more, plus they are a little bigger so tech support should be better and easier. but I am looking at the $50 to $40 month range price plans, I know they are more then the average plan in the US but it is all in CDN funds for me here and I would rather not go through the whole hastle of CDN to US or vise sersa.

But what do I need to properly run this forum cause both companies said they think it will run but they will have to test it first and get back to me in a few days.

Thanks again!!!

Well, you need PHP v4 and MySQL version.. uh, I dunno. :)

You also need sendmail if you want to email passwords to users and things like that. Otherwise, it's what else your site needs (besides YaBB) that tickles your fancy.

WebExceed has the better plan IMHO, unless you need Access databases. But... please check the US sites... for $10 (about $20Can), dzones.com gives you 5GB bandwidth, 100MB storage and everything WebExceed does and a little bit more (5 MySQL dbs, 25 sub-domains, 5 ftp accounts, streaming video, etc). Other US hosting sites are similarly priced too... unless you really need 10GB of bandwidth? Even so, dzones could do that for $18US ($35Can??) and you'd still save money.

The only reason I'm pushing dzones.com is because I use it and know it's pretty good. But there are dozens of other US-based ones that for $10US can get you as much as that $50Can, and I don't think the conversion rates are THAT bad. :)

Good luck, Moya

Hollllllllllllllliiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeee Shheeeee Hat!!!!!!! Thank you for that hosting company They include alot for the price and for the difference even if canada goes belly up and becomes reliant on the US (which I hope it does!!!! Hehe... yeah, I use the $9.95/mo plan too, and they can have you set up in a few hours/by tomorrow too. I'm in Florida, near the Mouse House (Orlando), and I sure love it here weather-wise.

If you need help with their features, let me know!

Crap man, quit knocking us so bad ;)

It has the best weather, where else can you get both heat near 40 celsius and cold at -20 celsius? ;)

You must be in Toronto (since you mentioned strikes), must have been a horrible, stinky couple of weeks  ;D

Warning: MySQL Connection Failed: Access denied for user: 'ftp://**.**.**.**@localhost' (Using password: YES) in /home/******/public_html/yabbse/install.php on line 204
Cannot connect to database server with given data

When I need to enter in my
