Google and yabb boards

Hi.

There is something that i wanted to share my opinions and wondering your comments.

phptalk.com has been launched onn April 7th. Now i see Google referers as of July 1st. There is an increase in traffic from Google to phptalk.com board.

BUT i just do an investigation and see that GOOGLE DO NOT INDEX messages although they do normally.

All referers are for category indexes and topic indexes. I am not sure but using ";" instead of "&" woulb be a problem for robots to index yabb forums?

Example:

Google indexes http://talk.phptalk.com/index.php?board=3 page

 but not

http://talk.phptalk.com/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=331

which is just 1 click away from above page.

I have designed several database related sites and never encounter with such problem before.

Although i know that search motors indexes HTML OUTPUT of PHP FILES, i am not sure what is going in this case.

Any comments? Or anyone knows something about that?

Thanks.

change the boardurl to a relative url, notification emails will be messed up but you have to make a mod for that

there is a thread about this in this board.  Just do some searching

Solution:

Modify Settings.php and set

$boardurl = "";

And then locate sendmail functions in

profile.php
posts.php
register.php
sendtopic.php

and look at message body texyts and modify

$cgi ----> http://yourdomain.com/path/$cgi
$scripturl ----> http://yourdomain.com/path/index.php

Thats all.

I did it. It works on www.phptalk.com (not on talk.phptalk.com)

NOT a MOD but quick fix for who are familiar with php files.

I made 2 new variables ($mailurl & $mailurl2), $mailurl is the old $scripturl, and $mailurl2 is the old $cgi. I replaced those variables in Profile.php,SendTopic.php,Register.php and Post.php (in the function sendmail).
:)

BTW: It's iZi to do this >:D
