Of course without the linebreak function you can use the smilies the normal way; the popup is an addon and completely optional. I added the popup because it was very popular among people at vbulletin.
The linebreak has no effect on people who use the popup, but those who want to seperate smilies can use it to a good effect.
I take it you'll be waiting then..
