I tried doing this before, and I am sure it would have been a great "Feature" for yabb but I just couldn't get pspell to work.  I have seen every tutorial about it and couldn't figure it out :(

I still think using spellchecker.com would suffice, yabb cgi uses it and it works for them. Since nobody seems to know how to use pspell or aspell and it sounds like the difficulty level is harder to master, what reasonable logic would keep anyone from attempting to duplicate what is already successfully working for yabbsp1 ?

I have only 1 problem, I can't load a word list.  I have the dictionary but I don't know how to get the dictionary to become a word list.  If someone told me how to do that, I could probably make it.

if you use an online-spellchecker, your board has to connect with that host. It costs expensive TIME TIME. You have to run it local ;)

My 2 cents:

[sarcasm]Get a damn dictonary or go to school!(never thought I would say that last part ;))[/sarcasm]

I don't think something like this is necessary, it is just a waste of resouces and prohibits people from learning since it would fix their mistakes for them.

Well, then lets just throw computers away then, since it makes people lazy.  It's so much better to write out documents then perfect them in the computer, right?

Nope that is something completly different. If people can't post something without making spelling mistakes(people who don't speak that language excluded). Then they need to learn how to read and write better then post. And just because a computer can do it doesn't mean we can't either, it just takes longer to do and most people don't want to. But I am sure we could all benefit from doing things on our own without the assitance of technology. Have you realized that alot of Americans can't really speak their native language English that well, that is kind of pathetic and most of it can be blamed on technology. They don't actually try to learn anything because it can instantly be done by their pc's.

But don't get me wrong, technology can be used for alot of good things as well.

I'd like to know how this turned into a childish debate on the merits of whither or not people should have better learned grammar and English capabilities. We're not looking for your sociopath viewpoints on what you think the world should be. We're looking for a feature that unlike you, the vast majority of other web site people would appreciate. How about sticking with the technical merits of why or why not a software feature would function with yabb. The rest of this thread is simply space-wasted blather.

I do believe that was the point I was trying to make. Instead of everyone going on and on with useless opinions, one of these star developers should be able to help you. I'm not a veteran coder so my input would likely be a waste of your time. If I was attempting to do this I would first see if I could convert what yabb sp1 is already doing (using spellchecker.com) to work with yabb se. Else wise I would investigate the idea of taking the dictionary and placing it into the mysql database. From there I would investigate how to use existing comparator routines in yabb code to utilize for looking at the dictionary and producing results.

For? yabb sp1 ?? http://www.yabbforum.com/community/

For spellchecker ??
http://www.spellchecker.com

For the spellchecker mod? you can find that on boardmod, if you can't,. I can pass along the perl code source files he used for yabb sp1. Perl is not to much different than php in ways.
