When was the ability to log in by display name taken out? It was a nice feature and it makes it easier for "non-tech" people, because they don't have to understand that their info is stored as a username and a display name.

Secondly, is there something going on whereby YaBB SE isn't allowing the browser to cache form info? It seems to be working fine on this site, but on this forum that I've setup, when a user makes a mistake in registration or posting a message or some such and clicks "back", the form information has been cleared.

Lastly, my template is straight out of the box, and it's formatted perfectly, but when it's outputted to the browser, all the lines from the template are put onto one line, without breaks. Looks fine on this forum, so what's going on with mine?

Okay, this is turned into more into a help post with items #2 and #3, but hopefully it can slide just this time. ;)

About the caching. You probably have checked the option "Disable output caching" in the admin settings. I was wondering about the same thing until I noticed that.

As for ability to login with display name, it has never been like that in SE and I can't remeber the last time YaBB Perl had it.

Hm, in 1.0.0 I distinctly remember being able to do that and also reporting that using alternate capitalizations while logging in or adding a user as a moderator caused problems. Am I off my rocker? :-\ I'll have to check out the 1.0.0 install I have kicking around..

You were right about that Hypocrite, thanks for the tip-off. Why's this enabled by default?

And any idea about the last problem?

Slightly off topic and I appologise but indirectly associated.

Since my upgrade, my cache wont clear effectivly.  The only way I could see any graphical changes to the board was by logging in via another computer.  Disable cache option did not work, refresh, delete temp files and cookies either.  The only way I solved the problem was by loading the URL with Netscape, refreshing, and then returning to IE6 and I can then see the changes?!

As I said, slightly off topic becasue I don't believe this is a YaBB effect but something amiss with my Browser, but even after uninstalling IE to a previous version and re-installing, the same thing occurs?   Strange to say the least and I will watch this thread with interest to see if there is anything that makes me go "AHH that was the reason" ;)

My first thought reading the first lines of your posts was: I bet he uses netscape. Since this browser always pulls that kind of jokes on me. I never ever had the same thing with IE.

So, now you mentioned that you had to start Netscape to fix the problem, I guess that your netscape installation has mixed some things up in the registry regarding IE's caching.

Uninstalling the browser and installing a fresh copy of IE doesn't solve the problem in most cases, since a very large part of IE's code is actually code from windows itself....which will not get replaced by re-installing just the browser.

I actually installed Netscape to try and see if I could rectify or replicate the problem as it was happening on the only browser I had installed, IE6.
From what you imply, maybe I have a problem with Windows then and have to deal with a dreaded re-install of 98SE unless there is an easier option?  None the less, thank you for that I guess I had better go buy some CD's for an enjoyable back up afternoon huh?

Heh, I always think to myself that I should back things up, but only occasionally do it. So although a wipe of my hard drive and reinstall can be a bit of a process, at least it forces me to back things up and then gives me a rejuvenated computer. ;)

Hehe true true :)  I had my original install of 95 on my old computer for four years and since I never backed anything up or even had a method to, I just let my computer keep moving along...slowly ;)

Dern, that reminds, I've been meaning to download that free Maya educational edition..

I just re-did my computer a month or so ago, added another 128 strip of RAM, another 20gb hard drive, and made it a dual boot Win98/Win2k. Win98 was supposed to be for games and Win2k for everything else that needed stability, speed, productivity, whatever. Turns out I haven't touched Win98 and I've installed... several.. games on Win2k, so I'm probably on the fast track to trashing the computer again. But on the bright side, I now store all my data on the new 20gb hard drive that I got, so if there's ever a problem with the OS, I can just wipe and start over really fast.

To be semi-on-topic, any idea what's the deal with the template being put all on one line?

Sooo.... Shall I submit it as a bug? I don't think I've seen anyone else with this problem, though. :-\
