Multiple groups assignment

Seems like a useful feature would be the ability to allow a user to be a member of more than one group.  

As it stands there is a one-dimensional relationship between users->groups-> and the discussion categories they can access.

Hey Godai This Will Be A Fine Mod Indeed.. I Think This And The Advanced Groups Should Be implemented Into Version2.0... or has it already been discussed???

Mod Team is already beta testing this on a beta test site. Some problems has arrived with the dev of this, only time will tell if it ever get released.

In the meantime, cewyattrjr...... here's a kludgy but functional workaround that I'm using:

If you want blue users to access the blue category, and red users to access the red category, but then you have some users that you want to be able to access BOTH categories, simply create another usergroup (purple?) and make the "both users" members of that...... then give the purple group access to both categories.  for every combination of accesses, you'll need a new usergroup.  Painful if you have lots of members, but if the board is small, it's a workable interim measure.

Nemesis: Out of interest, is this being done by creating a relational table that does a many2many relationship between a member and a member-group, in addition to the existing many2one relationship between a member-group and a category?

If help is needed on getting this working, I may be able to put some time in. (I am a noobie on this forum, but I have 15 years programming experience and I can do PHP and MySQL to a reasonable level.)

tykatt: I am looking at 20+ membergroups, where a member can be in 2 or 3 groups. Frightening number of permutations! But this is how it's being tackled at the moment.

This mod is so needed it's painful.
I think i'll have to go to vbulletin if i cant get this feature.  Only simple simple communities can function without this feature.

Wouldn't be hard to do, just long. All you'd really have to do is replace the settings[7] checks with in array checks and use an explode on an array of membergroups.

I have already begun makeing this mod. I have it semi working over at http://www.agigames.com/boardmod/

I can give people multiple membergroups over there. Right now I am working on the profile display and trying to fix a bug with the admin member group.(I think the same bug will be in the Global Moderator member group as well).
