Forum Speed very slow - Use Textlinks !!

The current Forumspeed ist very slow. Why don't you use Textlinks instead of those graphic buttons. Using textlinks will imrpove the overall transfer speed of your whole forum. Have a look at the Yabb Gold Forum which hasn't mysql support, but it's still faster because of the textlinks architecture

yabbse can also be used with textlinks! and i cant find any difference in speed!

This forum and site is plenty fast for me. Just as fast as yabbforum.com, in fact. Btw, the first Gold Release used graphical buttons as well, while Service Pack 1 uses combo graphics/text buttons.

as for this being almost as fast as yabbforum.com it just aint true - this is 10 times faster! :P

yabbforum has actually made some very nice strides...the speed has increased greatly in the last few months.  

Good stuff :)

true - but for some reason, no matter how hard we've tried to fix it, BM is still slooow a lot of the time :(

It's still on the slow side, but I'm thinking it might be partly due to all the images, I dunno. You have to admit, though, there's been a marked improvement since XXL changed the script for the mainpage. BM can still hang a little, but not nearly as badly as before.

maybe you can make a test run and replace all images with textlinks and see how the speed is improved or not  ???

Using text links normally doesn't speed things up noticeably (apart from the first visit), as the graphics would then be stored in the browser cache.

This is just true if you regularly visit the site. If a site has much First time visitors or registered members who post from different locations (home, school, work..) your argument doesn't work, because this first time visitors have to download all graphics.

I was also wondering why this forum is slower compared to others.  I assume it is the server.  I use to have my site hosted at successfullhosting.com, and after I got about 30,000 posts with YaBB gold, it bogged bad.  I have since moved to tera-byte.com and it just flys.
