Set up Error on line 704 of install.php
« on: December 02, 2003, 10:01:15 PM »

YaBB SE Version: 1.5.4
PHP Version: 4.3.2
MySQL Version: 3.23.x
Server Platform: Unix, Linux, or BSD
Link to Forum: http://www.sugathan.net/yabbse/install.php

Problem Description:
I keep getting the following error when trying to install YaBBSE 1.5.4:

Parse error: parse error in /www/s/samir1973/htdocs/yabbse/install.php on line 704

The directory and files have been CHMOD to 755, but I still keep getting that error. I have even tried a CHMOD of 644, but no luck.

Any ideas? Oh, and my PHP version is actually 4.3.3, but your drop-down had no option for that.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Meh, same difference on the PHP version.

Please insure that you uploaded install.php in ASCII or TEXT mode.

I re-uploaded and made sure it was in ASCII mode (as I did last time too) and I still get the same error.  Should I download another Yabb SE 1.5.4 from a different mirror and try uploading that?

That might be best...

This should be line 704:
   <b>Please remember to delete install.php or rename it so it can' . "'" . 't be executed, and to chmod your installation dir to something other than 777</b><br />';

I re-uploaded both files from a new mirror and still the same error.  So, does that line mean I should delete or rename install.php after I upload it?  I don't get it.  My apologies as I am no PHP expert.

Here's the thing.  I don't see any possible way that line could cause a parse error in any version of PHP.  So the only thing I can think is either you have PHP 3 or something (I guess it might in that VERY OLD version...) or that install.php is not being uploaded all the way.

Please DELETE the file ENTIRELY before uploading a clean copy... if that doesn't work, please send me your FTP information over instant messaging. (http://www.yabbse.org/community/index.php?board=131;action=im)

Thank you,

I'm not [Unknown], but it looks like that was what you were being invited to do:

;D  Doh!  Sorry, I assumed MSN IM.  In any case, I had put up this same problem on another board and it turned out that I had a corrupted copy of install.php.  A user kindly sent me an uncorrupted copy and I could install it fine there on my personal website.  I just could not launch it because of an internal 500 error, which is my webhosts issue.

Now, I tried installing a test board where my current forum lies (with the new install.php I got) and all I get is a blank page at http://www.bootroom.org/bootroomtest/install.php

Any ideas?

Strange... what does your host say about this, if anything?

I resolved the first issue and how I resolved that was that I was told I needed to CHMOD all folders to 755 and make all files 644.  This enabled me to get my board running on my personal webspace.

Regarding the one with the blank page, I sent the link to the webhost and asked what I could do to resolve this.  If I get a helpful  reply, I shall share it with the forum.
